GARRY MCCLURE, NCOA PRESIDENT
Force Master Chief (Ret.) Garry McClure was elected President and National Commander of the Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA) in July 2023.
A native of Roxbury, Massachusetts, McClure enlisted in the United States Navy through the Delayed Entry Program in July 1981. He completed Recruit Training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois, in March 1982, followed by Airman Apprenticeship Training. Upon graduation, he reported to VS-41 FRAMP, where he qualified as an S-3A Viking Plane Captain, beginning a distinguished career in Naval Aviation Maintenance.
His sea-duty assignments include service with VS-29 at Naval Air Station North Island, California, deploying aboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70); Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF), Barking Sands, Kauai, Hawaii; and Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia, where he served as Leading Petty Officer of AIMD Divisions 51A and 51C and Welder NEC 7222 from 1992 to 1993 and again from 1998 to 1999. He later served with VFA-195 in Atsugi, Japan, as Line Division Chief, Flight Deck Coordinator, and Maintenance Control Supervisor, NEC 8800 and 8300, deploying aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63).
McClure concluded his aviation maintenance sea-duty career as the deployed Maintenance Master Chief Petty Officer (MMCPO) and Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA) for Detachment Three, HSL-51, based in Atsugi, Japan. During this assignment, he deployed aboard the USS O'Brien (DD-975) and USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63).
His additional assignments include AIMD 51A/51C and OMD Transient Line at NAS Subic Bay, Philippines, Where he qualified Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS). Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, where he served as a Recruit Division Commander and Military Training Evaluator. During this tour, he earned the designation of Master Training Specialist (MTS) NEC 9502.
Selected as a Command Master Chief, NEC 9580 in 2006, McClure served as Command Master Chief of VFA-27 "Royal Maces" and Carrier Air Wing FIVE in Atsugi, Japan, deploying aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) and USS George Washington (CVN-73). He is also a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 109 (Khaki).
In April 2010, McClure assumed duties as the 15th Force Master Chief for Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic (AIRLANT). He completed his tour and retired from active naval service in April 2013 after more than 32 years of honorable service.
His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, eight Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, nine Good Conduct Medals, the Navy Recruit Division Commander Ribbon, and numerous unit and campaign awards.
McClure earned both an Associate and a Bachelor's degree in Business Management and Human Resources from the University of Management and Technology.
Following retirement, he became CEO of MAC, Inc., where he provides leadership development and team-building consulting to businesses and corporations. He also mentors young professional athletes, helping them develop successful personal and professional life strategies.
He currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia
