GIVE AN HOUR
  • A nonprofit organization with national network of mental health professionals who provide free mental health services to military personnel, veterans, and their loved ones. Give an Hour will not charge nor accept payments from NCOA members or families.

A military caregiver is a family member, friend, or acquaintance who provides a broad range of care and assistance for, or manages the care of, a current or former military service member with a disabling physical or mental injury or illness. Military caregivers are the backbone of their families; facilitating whole health and wellbeing for veterans, military and even others in the community. There are a total of 5.5 million caregivers caring for former or current military personnel in the U.S.  Nine in 10 (96%) caregivers of veterans are female and 70% provide care to their spouse or partner. Eighty-eight percent report increased stress or anxiety as a result of caregiving, and 77% state sleep deprivation is an issue.  A key recommendation from the 2014 RAND “Hidden Heroes: America’s Military Caregivers” report highlights that efforts are needed to help empower military caregivers. Those efforts should include ways to build their skills and confidence in caregiving, mitigate the potential stress and strain of caregiving, and raise public awareness of the caregiver’s value.  In that light, Give an Hour® and the Elizabeth Dole Foundation partnered to provide a brief overview of best practices in providing mental health care to America’s Hidden Heroes. By creating an understanding of the unique challenges of the military caregiver experience and the Military and Caregiver Experience Map, we hope that this guide can help nonprofits, support organizations and mental health providers raise public awareness and provide adequate services to caregivers.

  • As a proud member of NCOA, I want to provide an exclusive offer to NCOA Members for personal training services. Being in the fitness and health industry and having been part of luxury Fitness Clubs and corporate wellness centers, I have learned that preventative health is not considered a priority to most, and very rarely are these available among a community. With the growing rate of health problems and chronic diseases, health should be a priority but should also be specific to an individual. Over time I have learned the crafts necessary to provide a personalized approach to an individual’s fitness and health. Certifications include – certified trainer through National Academy of Sports Medicine, certified Nutrition Coach, certified in Pre-Post Natal Fitness, and Functional Movement Screening.  Specialized in Older Population and Animal Flow (a mix of yoga and Brazillian capoeira).
  • J. Min Fitness is offering 10% off on all personal training packages which will include two additional complimentary sessions, to aid you in improving your life and living a more healthy lifestyle. Visit J. Min Fitness,  Coupon codes: NCOA10 (in person personal training packages) or NCOA10ONLINE (virtual/online training packages). J. Min Fitness will donate 10% back to NCOA in support of the Association’s benevolent programs. J. Min Fitness is also offering NCOA members a 15% discount on their fitness collections.
