The NCOA Huntsville/Redstone Arsenal Chapter had the privilege of presenting 6 WWII Medallions to residents of the Tutt Fan Veterans Home in Huntsville, AL on Dec 7th. NCOA Rogue Chapter continues to seek out World War II veterans to ensure they receive the NCOA WWII Medallion in recognition of their service. Rogue Chapter recently hosted a holiday social. This social was the chapter's first one to be held over a year due to Covid. There were 22 in attendance as it was a rainy day. Awards were given, donations to charities presented, and a great meal was had by all. Merry Christmas from the Rogue Chapter!
The Trails End Auxiliary recently supported Clayton Mohr Commons, a 24-unit, fully subsidized project in Clackamas County, Oregon, that provides housing to chronically homeless and severely low-income veterans and their families.
The photo on the left is of the chapter members that participated and the supplies they donated. The photo on the right is Karen Haltiner, chapter chairman, delivering the donation to Kevin Shofner, the program manager for Clayton Mohr Commons. The NCOA Central Valley Chapter and Spirit of Sacramento Auxiliary once again manned the pizza and cold drink booth to support the community and raise funds for the chapters during the recent Capital City Airshow held October 2-3 at the Mather Airport. Call it a resounding success - the booth completely sold out of pizzas! The NCOA Rogue Chapter's 5th Annual Veterun was held on October 2. By all accounts, the event was a huge success with more than 120 runners/walkers and raising more that $14,000 to donate to 2 veteran charities - Columbia Care and Mighty Oaks Foundation.
Members of the Central Valley and Spirit of Sacramento Auxiliary Chapters prepared more than 1000 packages in support of Move America Forward. These packages are sent to troops deployed all around the globe. Move America Forward (MAF) is a nonprofit military charity based in Sacramento, California and the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization dedicated to supporting the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Their principal mission today is to provide care packages and letters from grateful Americans to the troops deployed in combat areas around the world. The NCOA Rogue Chapter Chairman Terry Haines recently made several World War II Honor and Legacy medallion presentations.
The photo on the left is the medallion being presented to the daughter of WWII veteran LTC Allen Carrico. He was a bombardier who was shot down over Czechoslovakia and became a POW. The center photo is WWII veteran Harry Hudson who was in the Army Air Corps, and the last photo is of Bill Branham who was a pilot in WWII. Rogue Chapter members Byron Cordes (Knights Advisor) , Ken Wilson (Trustee), Terry Haines (Chairman), and Rachael Watters (Trustee) participate in a recent membership recruiting and fund raising event. Hats off to the Rogue Chapter - 5 new NCOA members were recruited and $340 was raised for the the local Vietnam Wall project!
NCOA Chapters are urged to stay in contact with their members as much as possible with chapter membership meetings being cancelled as a result of health concerns and restrictions placed by federal, state or local governments. Chapters are also encouraged to take advantage of teleconferences, virtual meetings like Zoom, or social media (i.e. Facebook, Google, etc.) to conduct meetings and stay in touch with your members.
