San Antonio, TX – NCOA recently announced the recipients of the NCOA Outstanding Auxiliary Chapter of the Year, Outstanding Small Chapter of the Year and Outstanding Large Chapter of the Year Awards: NCOA is honored to recognize the NCOA Trails End Auxiliary in the Portland, OR, area as the 2019 Auxiliary Chapter of the Year. The chairman of the chapter is Joanne Ostlund who succeeded long time chairman Bonnie Waliezer this past January. The Trails End Auxiliary is a small chapter in membership numbers but they are extremely active. The members of the Trails End Auxiliary are deeply committed to supporting the Portland VA Hospital both financially and through thousands of volunteer hours. Chapter members ensure the veterans receive gifts on every holiday. Whether they are scooping ice cream, working in the office or visiting veterans, everyone at the VA recognizes the members of NCOA Trails End Auxiliary. They are active supporters of the NCOA JROTC program, coupon clippers extraordinaire, and can be called on to provide transportation for doctor’s appointments, to pick up prescriptions, or to get groceries. They are active supporters of the NCOA Disaster Relief Fund and the Bettsy Ross Educational Fund, as well as convention sponsors. NCOA is proud to recognize the NCOA Gateway Auxiliary in New Port Richey, FL, as the 2019 Outstanding Small Chapter of the Year. The chairman of the chapter is Linda Chellew. The members of the Gateway Auxiliary are deeply committed to a variety of family member-related activities and charities – Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to military/veteran families in need, Children’s Christmas Party, Children’s Easter Party, support of All Children’s Hospital, hosting an annual golf tournament benefiting the Kiddy Up Ranch, supporting the Fisher House, Hospice Programs and a local soup kitchen. The Auxiliary works closely with the regular Gateway Chapter to host dinners and a variety of joint events such as St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, Easter Dinner, Father’s Day Dinner, and an annual 4th of July Picnic. They utilize some very creative ways to raise funds to support their charitable donations – Soup Cook-off anyone?! They are very generous supporters of the NCOA Scholarship Fund and the Bettsy Ross Educational Grant program. NCOA is honored to recognize the NCOA Gateway Chapter of New Port Richey, FL, as the 2019 Outstanding Large Chapter of the Year. Chairman of the chapter is Paul Rizzo. The Gateway Chapter is the top recruiter for the Association. The chapter recognizes nearly 2 dozen JROTC cadets each year with the NCOA JROTC Award. In addition, the chapter provides each recipient a generous monetary award as well. They are involved and provide support to a wide variety of causes to include St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Special Olympics, Hospice Care, Dialysis Center, Kiddy Up Ranch, providing school supplies, and the WWII Honor Flight program. They work hand-in-hand with the Gateway Auxiliary to host dinners and a variety of events to include Mother’s Day Dinner, Valentine’s Day Dinner, an annual 4th of July Picnic, and Thanksgiving and Christmas for families in need.
