Rogue Chapter Vice Chairman Ken Wilson presented an NCOA Vietnam War Medallion to Alaska Airlines flight attendant Nancy Garcia on behalf of her brother Vernon Schrock who was KIA in Vietnam. The presentation took place on the return flight of Honor Flight of Oregon after a trip to Washington DC. Many tears and much applause erupted when this spontaneous presentation took place during the flight home. NCOA Vanguard Life Member Lady Vicky Hensley recently presented an NCOA Vietnam War Medallion to Luis Lopez, Texas District Vice Commander of the Marine Corps League.
According to Alan Reams, the Commander of VFW Post 4676 in Universal City, Texas, the Post presented NCOA Vietnam Medallions to some of their members who served in Vietnam and welcomed them home!
Magnum Force Chapter member Scott Mader stepped in to assist the Easter Bunny who just could not be everywhere at the same time. The chapter helped sponsor Bridgeport Township's Easter Egg Hunt put on by Bill Wheeler of Bridgeport Township's Parks and Rec department. Suffice it to say, a good time was had by everyone! Karen Haltiner, Chairman of the Trails End Auxiliary, recently presented an NCOA JROTC Award to C/SSG Nolan Fielder a junior at Oregon City High School.
Members of the NCOA Umpqua Valley Chapter 1308 traveled recently to present a WWII Legacy Medallion to Tech 6 Leroy Hopkins at his home in Yoncalla, Oregon. Leroy was a WWII combat medic in New Guinea and the Philippines with the 6th Infantry Division, with 18 months in combat. The photo on the left is a photo of Mr. Hopkins and his wife Carol and a shadow box of Leroy Hopkins’ military achievements…to include the Army Bronze Star Military Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Philippine WWII Liberation Medal, Army WWII Occupation Ribbon, Distinguished Unit Citation and Combat Medic Badge. Pictured in the photo on the right is Mr. Hopkins in front and from right to left in the back are Ron Dukes, Chapter Chairman; Don Adams, our newest chapter member; his wife Betty; and son Tom Adams, the Commander of the Oakland American Legion 152.
Seven members of the Maj. John Keith Wells Detachment of the Marine Corps League received the NCOA Vietnam War Medallion on Tuesday, March 7 in Abilene, TX. The Medallions were presented by fellow MCL (and NCOA) member Vicky Hensley. This Detachment was named after the Platoon Commander of the unit that raised the flag on Iwo Jima. Maj Wells was a resident of Abilene and was one of the first individuals to receive the NCOA WWII Remembrance Medallion.

One of the recipients joined NCOA as a result.
Lt Col Harry Andonian in Canton, GA. Harry is 99 and flew aircraft transport in WWII and in China-Burma-India flying “the hump” over the Himalayas. He had a long career as a test pilot, was in the Berlin Airlift, has flown over 300 types of aircraft from C-47, P-51, F-4 (combat in Vietnam), U-2 and SR-71. He’s done it all! He just quit flying in 2021! NCOA Central Valley Chapter Chairman CMSgt (Ret) Jim Sullivan and NCOA Spirit of Sacramento Auxiliary Chairman Tammy Sullivan recently presented a Korean War Medallion to John McKay. NCOA Vanguard Life Member Kevin Young recently presented Korean and Vietnam War Medallions to two veterans during an Awards Lunch at the New York State Veterans Nursing Home at St. Albans, Jamaica, New York. |
